When you’re in the middle of something, the last thing you want to do is wait for the HUD (heads-up display) to disappear after you adjust your volume. Even if it’s just for a few seconds, the HUD could be improved a whole lot if put somewhere less obtrusive.

A new jailbreak tweak called StatusHUD by iOS developer Alan Yip puts the volume HUD in the Status Bar instead of in its own pop-up that you have to patiently wait for before it disappears, as shown above. The volume appears as you adjust it, then turns back into the time when the user gets a chance to see the volume level. Not only is the tweak more convenient, but it even looks better.

Even better is that in full-screen applications, the Status Bar will appear then quickly disappear as you adjust the volume, so if you're gaming, you won't have a large volume HUD in the middle of your screen and getting in the way of your controls:



StatusHUD adds a preferences pane to the Settings application so you can choose between either the usual square volume indicator bars or an iOS 7 signal strength-inspired circular volume indicator bars:



StatusHUD supports both the regular volume and the ringer volume. If you would like to give the tweak a try, it's available in Cydia's BigBoss repository for just 99¢; a small price to pay for such a nice tweak that iOS is lacking in its stock form. The tweak is compatible with any iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad running iOS 6.0 or later.
