Apple confirmed Friday that it has acquired crowdsourced location data company Locationary.

Apple spokesman Steve Dowling says the purchase is consistent with Apple's penchant for buying
"smaller technology companies from time to time." But, Dowling was quick to add that "we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”
