| Subject: Bango switches on operator billing for Mozilla's Firefox OS Fri Aug 09, 2013 11:58 am | |
| HTML5 platform users able to pay for content via phone bills instead of plastic.
Mobile payments firm Bango has switched its services on for Mozilla's Firefox Marketplace - the app store dedicated to providing web apps to its HTML5-based Firefox OS.
A number of payment options will be on offer, but one-click direct operator billing is perhaps the most significant. The rising method continues growing in popularity for the flexibility it provides to non-cardholders in developing markets, allowing them to pay for apps and the like on their phone bill.
Its rather fitting, given that Firefox has launched in Spain and emerging markets Colombia, Poland and Venezuela, which will see Bango working with existing partners Telefonica and T-Mobile.
Venezuela, however, will receive operator billing in coming weeks, with card billing only available initially.
Firefox already has 20 OEM and operator partners globally and hopes its customisable mobile web-based devices will be as popular as its desktop browsing offering is with millions.
Ray Anderson, CEO of Bango, said: "Firefox Marketplace is the first app store to embrace operator billing from launch. For many consumers in fast growth markets, a Firefox OS device will be their first smartphone."
Rick Fant, VP of Apps and Marketplace for Mozilla, added: “Bango will enable Firefox Marketplace to provide flexible monetisation for developers and simple payment options for users, with tailored support as Firefox OS devices reach new markets around the globe."
The big Bango and Firefox switch-on follows an agreement that was originally sealed in June. |
