Microsoft to launch Office for iPad alongside Enterprise Mobility suite tomorrow

Ever since the iPad was launched, we’ve been hearing rumors that Microsoft will launch its hugely popular Office suite for Apple’s tablet. As reported last week, ZDNet reiterates that Microsoft will finally launch Office for iPad tomorrow.

The report claims that Microsoft will also launch the Enterprise Mobility Suite (EMS) along with Office for iPad:

Quote :
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is expected to unveil the long-rumored Microsoft Office for iPad suite on March 27. But there’s another Microsoft “suite” that I’m hearing will debut on March 27, too.

That suite, a licensing bundle known as the Microsoft Enterprise Mobility Suite (EMS), is for large enterprise customers who need to manage centrally iPads, iPhones, Android devices, Windows devices and more, according to sources of mine who’ve requested anonymity.

Reports have indicated that Microsoft had Office versions for the iPhone and iPad ready to release for quite sometime, but the apps were being held back until they got the thumbs up from new CEO Satya Nadella, who took over  in February after Steve Ballmer retired.

Some people believe the launch is a little too late. The company may be losing up $2.5 billion a year in revenue to competing products like Google Drive, Quip and Evernote. Analysts believe customers are skipping Office and choosing these alternative document editing and syncing solutions instead. They will be hard pressed to switch when Office for the iPad finally debuts.

It also remains to be seen how much Microsoft plans to charge for Office, as most of the competing products like Apple’s iWorks suite is available for free.

According to Mary Jo Foley at ZDNet, Nadella will announce Office for iPad and EMS on Thursday during tomorrow’s press event, which is supposed to focus on Microsoft’s new “mobile first, cloud first” strategy. It will be broadcasted live from San Francisco at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET on the Microsoft News Center.
