‘Placed’ lets you launch apps using iBeacon Technology
When iBeacon was originally launched back with iOS 7 last year, most people didn’t know of its true potential. A new iPhone app however plans to utilize iBeacons to its full potential with the help of user determined functions.
This means you can set Placed to open a particular app or even a link from the browser whenever your connected iOS device is within proximity. iBeacons use Bluetooth LE to connect with the device, which is another major bonus. The app will launch the user determined function when they’re within three feet from the beacon.
At the moment, iBeacon hardware is very hard to come by so this idea might not reach its full potential immediately. But it’s good to know what they could be capable of in the coming months.
The Placed app costs about $2.99 right now, so you can give it a try, provided you’ve got iBeacon hardware. Estimote is currently offering beacons starting from $99.99 for a pack of three, which is worth a look.
