Judge permits lawsuit by former Apple employee who claims Steve Jobs promised lifetime job Apple-logo9513Today, a Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge gave approval to a lawsuit filed by former Apple employee Wayne Goodrich, who claims Steve Jobs promised him a lifetime job at Apple.
Goodrich has a long history with Apple, working for 20 years at the company in various capacities including a role as the executive producer of public presentations. Goodrich was fired a year after Steve Jobs’ death and promptly sued the company, claiming Jobs promised him a lifetime job at Apple. Goodrich was reportedly close to Jobs, working with him at Apple, Pixar and NeXT.

Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Carol Overton indicated she would deny Apple’s request for summary judgment in the case, which was filed in 2012 and alleges breach of contract and unfair business practices related to Goodrich‘s firing, among other things.
“The evidence simply did not show (Apple marketing chief) Phil Schiller knew the amount of the restricted stock units when he made the decision to terminate,” Joseph C. Liburt, the Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP attorney representing Apple, said in court.
Goodrich is asking for restricted stock units as well as damages for lost wages totaling $1 million. Apple’s attorneys raised an objection to the judge’s ruling that gave the go ahead to the suit. Judge Overton will consider the objection and is expected to issue her final ruling in the next few days.
