comScore: Apple Dominating Smartphone OEMs Apple-vs-samsung1

comScore today released new data from the comScore MobiLens service, which comprehensively chronicles key trends in the U.S. smartphone industry. The latest report covers the three month average period ending May 2013. And the findings are very favorable toward Apple.

Apple ranked as the top smartphone manufacturer with a 39 percent OEM market share (vs. Samsung's 23%) as of the end of May 2013. HTC was third with 8.7 percent, followed by Motorola with 7.8 percent and LG with 6.7 percent.

Unfortunately, Google's Android continues to lead as the #1 smartphone platform with a 52% platform market share. Apple's iOS, however, is hanging tough at 39% (and the gap continues to narrow).

MobiLens data is derived from an intelligent online survey of a nationally representative sample of mobile subscribers age 13 and older. Data on mobile phone usage refers to a respondent’s primary mobile phone and does not include data related to a respondent’s secondary device.
All told, 141 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones (59 percent mobile market penetration) during the three month period surveyed. That’s up 6% just since February 2013.
