Apple is widely expected to unveil iOS 8 at the WWDC Keynote on June 2nd, but it looks like it is preparing to release an iOS software update soon as MacRumors reports they’re seeing hits from iOS 7.1.2 devices on their web servers.

MacRumors reports that they’re getting hits from iOS 7.1.2 devices since last Friday, which indicates Apple has seeded iOS 7.1.2 to its employees for testing.

Activity is still low, but that is typical for the early stages of update testing, particularly minor ones that may not require widespread internal or external testing.

The details of the update are unknown, but the minor version number suggests that it could be meant for bug fixes. It is highly unlikely that it will include any major new features or improvements.
Apple will most likely fix the email attachment encryption and the iMessage bugs. Earlier today, Apple acknowledged the iMessage issue that is affecting users who switch from the iPhone, and has confirmed that it will provide a fix for the issue in a future software update.
Apple released iOS 7.1 on March 10th, which included a number of interface refinements, bug fixes, improvements, and new features. It released iOS 7.1.1 with Touch ID improvements and bug fixes on April 22nd.
Meanwhile, users who have upgraded to iOS 7.1.1 are eagerly waiting for pod2g and evad3rs’ to release the iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak, which has been demoed by several hackers. It remains to be seen if the news of iOS 7.1.2 software update will delay the launch of the jailbreak. Let’s hope it doesn’t.
